De Mazenod Door Outreach – Seasonal Farm Worker
This position will provide support to staff and volunteers working at the De Mazenod Outreach 19-acre farm, located in rural Ancaster. The farm grows produce and raises egg-laying chickens and honeybees to provide for Hamilton’s hungry who visit the De Mazenod Door Outreach ministry, 365 days a year. The Farm Worker position is best suited to a person who is a self-starter, a strong independent worker, and is eager to join a team that has a passion for making a difference in our community and in the lives of the people we serve, our guests.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with overall operations of farm
- Assist with planting, cultivating and crop harvesting activities
- Help support the Farm Manager with garden/produce, chickens, apiary/bees, and maintenance
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors
- Ability to squat, climb, bend, dig etc.
- Assist with daily cleanup of grounds
- Follow policies and procedures of the Parish and Diocese of Hamilton including confidentiality
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability and willingness to adapt to changing environments/situations
- Works effectively with and demonstrates respect for others
- Excellent time management and organization skills – ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines
- Current First Aid/CPR an asset
- Previous volunteer experience, especially with marginalized communities, desirable
- Small Farm Work or education in the field of agriculture is desired
- The successful candidate may be required to provide a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
- Must be able to provide own transportation
HOURS:
- One (1) 12-week contract starting June 3, 2024, and one (1) 8-week contract starting July 2, 2024: 35 hours per week including some weekends
- $17.75 per hour
